08/07/2025 Reminder: Request for 2025-2026 school tax rates and the new ORPTS Municipal Data Portal
Reminder: In addition to our request for 2025-2026 school tax rates, we encourage you to visit our new Municipal Data Portal
Dear School Business Officials,
Each year we ask you to provide your school tax rates to our department as early as possible so that we can process STAR credits for the homeowners in your district. In addition, below you will find links to our new Municipal Data Portal and information regarding STAR that may be helpful to you and your district.
Please provide your 2025-2026 tax rates by August 11.
If your school district issues tax bills on or around September 1. Please provide us with your 2025-2026 tax rates by Monday, August 11. We will use your tax rates to calculate STAR credits for homeowners in your district.
If your rates will not be finalized by that date:
- please provide us with your expected rates by August 11, and
- include in your email the date that your board will meet to finalize the rates.
How to provide the rates
- Download and use the Tax Rate Data Spreadsheet, which includes instructions.
- Enter school tax rates per $1,000 of assessed value for each municipal segment in your school district, excluding the library levy, if any.
- Indicate if the tax rates are expected or final.
- Send your completed spreadsheet to school.taxrates@tax.ny.gov.
If your school tax rates will be provided by someone other than your school business official (for example, in Suffolk County, the final tax rates are provided by each town), please forward this request to the appropriate person as soon as possible.
If you provide expected tax rates and the final rates differ from the expected rates, please send an amended spreadsheet to us.
Questions? Email school.taxrates@tax.ny.gov.
Note: In addition to this communication, our staff will send emails individually to each school business official. After we receive your final tax rates, we will not contact you again on this topic. Thank you for your prompt assistance.

Office of Real Property Tax Services (ORPTS) Municipal Data Portal
If you’ve recently used our Rates for School Apportionment application, you may have noticed it has a new home in our Municipal Data Portal. If you haven’t used the Rates for School Apportionment tool lately, it’s particularly helpful for school districts that levy taxes among multiple municipalities.
With a modernized layout and streamlined browsing experience, the Municipal Data Portal contains:
- Municipal Profiles, which provides local contact information for each municipality, school district, and county, as well as, equalization rates, assessment roll dates, statistics, and more.
- Sales Web, which includes 10 years of property sales and transfers for all of New York State, except New York City.
- Rates for School Apportionment, which provides school districts access to the equalization rates you’ll use to apportion school taxes.
We encourage you to confirm your district’s contact information and other details in Municipal Profiles and review your district’s information in Rates for School Apportionment.
If you identify issues or have feedback, email real.property@tax.ny.gov.
