Report fraud, scams, and identity theft
Warning from the New York State Office of Information Technology Services
The New York State Office of Information Technology Services has issued a warning to the public to be aware of phishing schemes related to NY.gov, the citizen-facing portal for New York State services. The phishing email directs users to a site collecting personal information under the false promise of a stimulus check. If you receive such an email, do not click any links or provide any personal information. Immediately delete the message and then clear it from your Deleted Messages folder.
Data security breaches
If your business relies on the secure transfer of confidential financial data—particularly if you’re working from home—we can provide some valuable tips that help protect you and your clients.
Tax evasion and fraud
If you suspect someone is committing tax evasion or fraud, report it to the Tax Department online, over the phone, by fax, or by mail. Your report is 100% confidential.
If you are a victim, or believe you may be a potential victim of tax-related identity theft, alert us immediately. We will track your information to help keep it private and protected.
If you receive a call from a supposed Tax Department employee about your tax account, and you suspect the caller is not an employee, report it; you may be the target of a scam.
