11/22/2021 Assessment Community Weekly

Update: Recent 467 change

On November 8, we told you about the new income year requirements for the senior citizens exemption. Last week, we shared some Q and As on the change.

The questions are continuing to come in, so we created a webpage where we could provide answers.

See Law change regarding seniors exemption.

We are working to update the handout and the following forms in the upcoming weeks:

Congratulations to David Jackson!

Yonkers Assessor David Jackson is hanging up his assessing hat.

Before he came to New York State, David was an assessor and leader in the assessment offices of Washington, D.C. and Norwalk, Connecticut. While he led the Westchester Tax Commission, we had the pleasure of working with David on RPTAC and as President of the County RPT Directors Association. Most recently, as the City of Yonkers Assessor, David was an ACES pilot.

We wish you the very best in your retirement, David!

Update to STAR webpages

We’ve updated Register for the STAR credit and Deadline to switch to the STAR credit to further clarify that we’ll add the difference between a STAR exemption and a STAR credit to the following year’s STAR credit when:

  • the homeowner registers to switch to the STAR credit from the STAR exemption,
  • the registration takes place after the deadline to switch to receive the current year credit, and
  • the homeowner registers no later than December 31 of the year of the credit.

Reminder: Move over MoveIt Ad Hoc

Tax Department employees are no longer using MoveIT Ad Hoc. In the upcoming weeks, ORPTS will launch a new Upload Files application in the Online Assessment Community.

In the meantime, you can use Aspera SendVault to transfer files to our staff. In order to transfer a file:

  1. Send an email to the ORPTS employee or mailbox to whom you wish to send the file.
  2. The individual or mailbox will respond via email with instructions to use Aspera SendVault.
  3. Follow the instructions in the SendVault Quick Start Guide (starting on page 3) to install the SendVault plug-in and transfer the file to the individual or mailbox.
