Assessment Community Weekly 05/28/19

It’s Grievance Day for most of you, so we’ll keep this as brief as possible.

IVP Tool Shutdown

In the upcoming days, we will take down the editing component of the Enhanced STAR Income Verification Program (IVP) tool. IVP reports will still be available, but you will not be able to add, delete, or otherwise edit 2019 data.

If you have a late 2019 STAR exemption application deadline, or you have late 2019 IVP enrollments, we will enter the data. Follow these instructions: How to transmit IVP forms to the Tax Department

If you have important edits to 2019 data, we will make the edits for you. Email us at real.property@tax.ny.gov

We will make a new IVP Tool available in the Fall. We ask that you hold any 2020 IVP processing (edits or additions) until the tool is available. We also ask that you do not transmit any 2020 IVP enrollments to us until we notify you that we are ready to accept them.

Even the Assessor/Director Hotline Needs a Break

The Assessor/Director Hotline will not be available on Friday, May 31, after 11:30 a.m. They’ll be back in the saddle at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning. We apologize for any inconvenience.

ICYMI (that’s In Case You Missed It) – STAR Program Update

On Thursday, we sent out a multi-part announcement about the STAR program, including: upcoming webinars, a change in the process to switch to the STAR credit from the exemption, and upcoming letters to those earning between $250,000 and $500,000.

The webinar information is below.

Here are samples of the two letters we will send to STAR program participants with incomes between $250,000 and $500,000:

As always, the letters advise property owners to contact us, not their assessor.

If you are contacted by a property owner who receives one of the above letters, please advise them to contact us directly at 518-457-2036.

Upcoming Webinars

To recap the 2019 STAR Program changes and answer your questions, we’ll hold informational webinars from 1:30—2:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, May 29

We know this is very busy time of the year. If you’re unable to attend either date, you’ll be able to watch a recorded version after June 4.
