RPS data entry best practices now available
In collaboration with RPTAC, we created a new webpage providing RPS data entry best practices to follow when updating owner and parcel information in both RPSV4 and RPS Online. Following these guidelines will help ensure consistency and integrity in your data and avoid future issues.
STAR and property tax delinquency program accelerated for 2026 and future years
We have updated the STAR and property tax delinquency general timeline for 2026. The new timeline was requested by the Real Property Tax Administration Committee so the STAR Delinquency Report (Report #5) can be issued in mid-May, well before most assessors publish their final assessment rolls. To facilitate the earlier report, the dates for each action are now one month earlier than in previous years.
County directors, please provide us with lists of Basic STAR recipients with property tax delinquencies greater than one year by March
Note: The timeline and participants of the delinquency program will vary based on the calendar and specifics of your locality.
Chapter 77 of the Laws of 2026 amends the new RPTL 458-a(11) exemption (Exemption for Veterans with a 100% Service-Connected Disability)
On February 13, the Governor signed into law Chapter 77 of the Laws of 2026, amending RPTL 458-a(11) (which was enacted by Chapter 672 of the Laws of 2025).
This chapter amendment makes two significant changes to RPTL 458-a(11) that assessors should be aware of:
- It removes the local option from that exemption, thereby making the 458-a(11) exemption mandatory for all municipalities; and
- It delays implementation of 458-a(11) so that it first applies to assessment rolls based on taxable status dates occurring on and after October 1, 2026.
Updates to forms, RPS, and other resources such as FAQs are in progress, we will notify you in future editions of this newsletter when they are available.
