New enhanced STAR provisions
We know many of you have questions about the new income verification provisions in the 2018–19 Enacted State Budget. We had a very productive meeting with RPTAC last week to gather their input and questions. We are working to provide you with updates in the near future. For now, please continue to accept enhanced STAR applications as you have in the past.
Reminder: Assisting seniors who missed the exemption application deadline
There are five provisions of the law that generally allow seniors to file exemption applications after taxable status date.
For instance, until Grievance Day, you can extend the enhanced STAR deadline for a senior who missed it due to:
- death of an immediate family member, or
- serious illness of the applicant or a family member that can be documented by a physician.
