General filing information
Each tax year starts on January 1 and ends on December 31.
Generally, your return is due April 15, although this date can change if there are federal or local holidays.
If you cannot file by this date, you can request an automatic six-month extension of time to file (until October 15) using Form IT-370, Application for Automatic Six Month Extension of Time to File for Individuals. Note: An extension is only good for filing the return. It does not include an extension of time to pay the tax due.
