Online Services Account: Inactivity Policy

Effective November 2025, if you have not used your New York State Tax Department Online Services account within the past three years, we will inactivate it.

If we inactivate your Online Services account

We will:

  • inactivate your username and, for Business and Tax Professional accounts, any other usernames associated with the Online services account
  • mail you notices, bills, and all other communications through the U.S. Postal Service, even if you previously signed up to receive electronic communications
  • not change or remove tax professionals' online access to clients' confidential tax information

To keep your account active

Log in to your Online Services account at least once every three years.

To learn about the services available in each type of Online Services account, see About Online Services.

To reactivate your account

See Create an Online Services account and follow the instructions for creating a new account. When finished, your account will reactivate and restore access to your account summary information, including any open bills and your filing and payment history.

However, reactivating your account will not restore all your previous account information, including:

  • electronic communications preferences
  • Online Services account messages
  • employee roles and access to clients in the Client Summary of a Tax Professional account
  • employee roles in a Business account

Online Services Account: Terms and Conditions

We reserve the right—in our sole discretion and at any time—to terminate your access to your Online Services account, without liability to you or any third party. To learn more, review our Online Services Account: Terms and Conditions.
