A variety of savings plans are available through payroll deduction. For example, the deferred compensation plan, the U.S. Savings Bonds Payroll Savings Plan, and New York's College Savings Program.
This account offers two opportunities for pre-tax savings: the Dependent Care Advantage Account and the Health Care Spending Account.
A variety of tuition voucher and reimbursement opportunities are offered through negotiated agreements with employee unions.
Certain employees may purchase a group-term life insurance policy. Employees who participate in the Income Protection Plan are covered for short-term and long-term disability benefits.
The EAP helps employees cope with personal issues. EAP is an assessment and referral service that can connect employees with local service providers and support services to address their needs.
The EWP offers all state employees various lunchtime activities, including yoga, exercise, meditation, CPR training, and stress management seminars.
This is currently available to employees in New York City and Westchester County only. This service offers consultation and referral on child and elder care issues along with free educational materials on related topics.
Employees in New York State agencies are appointed to positions according to New York State Civil Service Law. These jobs are filled through competitive exams designed to assess individuals’ strengths and weaknesses.
Exams are posted regularly and provide the title, salary, and duties of the positions you can be eligible for after taking the exam, as well as the minimum qualifications required to take the exam, the subject and date of exam, the exam fee, and information about how to apply for the exam.
