The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance today reminded monthly and quarterly sales tax filers that returns are due no later than 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, September 20.

The department urges filers to take advantage of convenient options to help avoid filing at the last minute. Sales Tax Web File makes filing easy, fast, and flexible—allowing returns to be Web Filed early and the associated return payments to be scheduled up until the due date.

Filing resources include videos, demos, and written guidance.

Sales Tax Web File is free to use and allows payments to be made directly from a vendor’s checking or savings account. The software, designed to protect your private information, allows bank account information to be saved for future payments.

Registered sales tax vendors must file sales tax returns even if they had no taxable sales, taxable purchases, or credits to report. They face penalties if they don’t meet their filing obligations.

To Web File:

  1. Log in to your Online Services account.
  2. Select Sales tax – file and pay under the Services heading.
  3. Select Sales Tax Web File from the drop-down menu.
  4. Complete the application and click the Submit button.
  5. Print the filing confirmation page for your records.
