The New York State Tax Department today announced its Twitter account, @NYStaxnews, as yet another way to help taxpayers and tax professionals stay informed on a wide range of state-related tax issues.

Follow us @NYStaxnews to get a "direct feed" from the department on a regular basis.  The posts, commonly known as "tweets", announce initiatives and services such as filing reminders, the location of clinics that help low-income taxpayers complete returns, or the details of critical and timely changes to the tax law, and more.

"Expanding our social media reach allows us to quickly provide real-time, accurate information directly to taxpayers and tax professionals who use social media," said Commissioner Thomas H. Mattox.

Informative YouTube Videos

The department also has expanded its social media footprint by introducing a number of new, easy-access YouTube videos.

By visiting the department's Web site, www.tax.ny.gov, taxpayers can view quick, jargon-free, instructive videos on topics such as avoiding common income tax errors, using Sales Tax Web File, home property taxes and assessments, e-file requirements, the new refund debit card for individual taxpayers, or record keeping requirements for sales tax vendors.

Many of these videos are ‘how-to' presentations.  For example, the "Online Services - Introduction and Overview" video takes just a little more than two minutes to provide step-by-step help on how to set up a customized account that, at no cost, makes it easy to Web File, make payments, or receive e-mail from the Tax Department.
